Lecture by Giorgia Mancini based on a selection of artworks from the Paleolithic to the present day. Initially valued and present on the earliest known cave paintings (Chauvet and Lascaux), yellow is associated with the sun and knowledge. In the Middle Ages, its vicious charge grew to the point of imbalance, condemning it and making it synonymous with defilement. Yellow then became the unloved color of the color palette. A selection of artworks from the Paleolithic to the present day will allow visitors to appreciate the variety of minerals, as well as the different chemical processes for manufacturing yellow (ochre, tin-lead yellow, Naples yellow, cadmium yellow, among others), and the various ways in which artists have used it over the centuries.
