The Kan ar Bobl, song of the people is one of the most important manifestations of Breton culture!
Since 1973, Kan ar Bobl has been keeping alive and reviving the immense richness of Brittany's oral and musical heritage. Selected in the spring from across Brittany, the competitors perform in Breton, Gallo, and French under the discerning and demanding eye of a knowledgeable jury. Held annually, the competition brings together several hundred musicians and singers in the form of rounds organized throughout Brittany, culminating in the final in Pontivy. Several categories are offered within the competition. The Questembert competition, from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm, is organized by the Andon association: a meeting place for people from the Upper Vannes region, the Gallo-speaking Vannes region, the Lower Vannes region, the Redon region, and the Porhoët region. Andon is hosting a Fest-deiz (daytime Breton dance event) at 2:30 pm, alongside the Kan ar bobl 2026 competition. This year, the groups An Amaturien, Ayoul tad&mab, Grain de Celte, and the Andon singing workshop will provide the entertainment. A Breton singing workshop will also be held the day before with Elodie Jaffré and Maude Madec. Registration is by email.
