  • For the 13th consecutive year, the LPO and the National Museum of Natural History are inviting citizens to participate in the national count of garden birds.

  • The principle is simple. Count for 1 hour the birds that visit your garden, your balcony or the public park of your choice. This data, collected during this participatory science operation, allows scientists to learn more about the birds that visit gardens during the winter period. How to participate? The principle is simple. Count for 1 hour the birds that visit your garden, your balcony or the public park of your choice. This data, collected during this participatory science operation, allows scientists to learn more about the birds that visit gardens during the winter period. How to participate? This operation is accessible to everyone. The protocol is simple: choose an observation location (a garden, a park, a balcony, etc.) and a day: the proposed Saturday or Sunday. Observe for 1 hour all the birds that you see in this same location and note your observations in the table of the brochure proposed by Bretagne Vivante (document to download below) or by entering them online (link by clicking on the "book" button on this page). Warning! For each species, only note the maximum number of birds observed at the same time. If you see 3 blue tits, then 2, then 4, you will note 4 blue tits, not 9 (not 3 + 2 + 4). If the birds cannot be identified, do not note them in the table! In 2024, just over 17,000 gardens were monitored. But this is a 38% decrease compared to 2023 (approx. 28,000 gardens), so let's mobilize this year!
