For the 13th consecutive year, the LPO and the National Museum of Natural History are inviting citizens to participate in the national count of garden birds, which takes place two weekends a year (January and May).

The principle is simple. Count the birds that visit your garden, your balcony, or the public park of your choice for 1 hour. This data, collected during this participatory science operation, allows scientists to learn more about the birds that visit gardens during the winter period. How to participate? The principle is simple. Count the birds that visit your garden, your balcony, or the public park of your choice for 1 hour. This data, collected during this participatory science operation, allows scientists to learn more about the birds that visit gardens during the winter period. How to participate? This operation is open to everyone. The principle is simple: choose an observation location (a garden, a park, a balcony, etc.) and a day: the proposed Saturday or Sunday. Observe for 1 hour all the birds that you see in this same location and record your observations in the table in the brochure proposed by Bretagne Vivante (counting sheet to download below) or by entering them online (link by clicking on the "book" button on this page). Attention! For each species, only record the maximum number of birds observed at the same time. If you see 3 blue tits, then 2, then 4, you will record 4 blue tits, not 9 (not 3 + 2 + 4). If the birds cannot be identified, do not record them in the table! In 2024, just over 17,000 gardens were monitored. But that's a 38% decrease compared to 2023 (approximately 28,000 gardens), so let's get involved this year!
