Meeting with the director. Directed by Alain Kassanda, 1h29 min documentary in VOSTF. Every Thursday, a group of students from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria organizes a film club. Watching films together frees up speech and will transform this simple film-loving meeting into a real agora where critical, political and activist thinking is developed. This youth, who are told that they are as hard-headed and empty as a coconut, will seize this contemptuous description and erect it as a standard in their fight for a better Nigeria. Alain Kassanda Born in Kinshasa in the DRC, Alain Kassanda arrived in France at the age of 11. After studying communication, he organized screening cycles and several festivals in different Parisian cinemas. He then became programmer of the art house cinema, Les 39 Marches, in the Paris region. In 2015, he moved to Ibadan, in the southwest of Nigeria. There, he made Trouble Sleep, a medium-length film that explores the road from the point of view of a taxi driver and a tax collector. At the same time, he shot the first images of what would become Coconut Head Generation. Back in France, he gave his grandparents a voice in the feature film, Colette & Justin, which interweaves a family story and the history of the decolonization of Congo. Coconut Head Generation is his third film. In partnership with the Cinéphare association and Groupement National des Cinémas de Recherche (GNCR). Regular prices.
