The castle grounds are home to the ruins of the medieval fortress (12th century) with a tumultuous history, of which the ramparts and the châtelet remain. They cohabit with a main building built in the 20th century on the basis of former 17th century stables. It was Alfred Klots, a Francophile American painter born in St Germain-en-Laye, who invested his wife's fortune in the construction of the building and restored a castle to Rochefort-en-Terre. After having been the property of the General Council of Morbihan for a time, the castle and its estate are today (since 2013) the property of the municipality of Rochefort-en-Terre. The guided tours offered by the Tourist Office allow you to learn more about the history of Rochefort-en-Terre and the castle. An interactive guided tour to discover the castle of Rochefort-en-Terre is offered by Lisa Wheeler, member of the Association du Château de Rochefort-en-Terre, cousin of the Klots family. A free audio tour in French and English (via the GuidiGo application) in 5 steps, with texts and photos. In the park of the castle, you can also discover a fascinating museum of fantastic imaginary arts, the Naïa Museum. A dreamlike journey to the heart of time and space!
