By Isabelle Matamoros. George Sand (1804-1876), born Aurore Dupin, is best known for her pastoral novels, from *La Petite Fadette* to *La Mare au Diable*. But this prolific writer knew how to defy social norms during her lifetime, through the diversity of her writing, her political commitments, and her life choices. The 150th anniversary of her death is an opportunity to revisit the life of this free-spirited woman in the 19th century.
