His Origins

This village takes its name from a relic of the True Cross, which probably came from the Hospitallers of St. John of Jerusalem. Legend has it that a knight, returning from the crusade, took with him a fragment of the Cross of Christ. After a stop in the village, he realized that he had lost it. The treasure was found in the nest of a magpie and a chapel was erected to house the precious relic.

Langroëz, La Vraie-Croix in Breton, invites the eyes to marvel at the richness of its architectural and landscape heritage, built with the local stone, granite. You will discover the picturesque Chapelle de La Vraie-Croix of the 13th century and its legend, classified Monument Historique,the Maison Louis, the Fountain of the Saint, the ruins of the Tostal… The beauty of its gray granite houses is wonderfully enhanced by a palette of flowers of all species.

Religious Heritage

Of the chapel raised in the th century, only an original portal remains. The rest of the chapel dates from the16th century. The granite building was restored at the end of the XXth century (between 1974 and 1986) by the Bâtiments de France and classified as a Historic Monument since 1926, as well as the crypts under the chapel.

Nested in the first folds of the Landes de Lanvaux chain, La Vraie-Croix offers walkers an authentic undulating and green countryside, beautiful landscapes. The Langroez circuit (9 km) allows hikers to discover a diversified fauna and flora in the town and around the villages.

The Etang du Pont-Palais located in the heart of the village is magnificently wooded, an ideal place to walk for families (picnic area with games for children) and for fishing lovers.
